Name: Edlira Gjoni
Based in Tirana since 1997, living in and out  of Albania ever since.

Job and employer: Communications Professional, experience in International Development, Journalism, Knowledge Management, Political Activism and in projects focused on Education, Human Rights and Women Empowerment; Trainer and Lecturer on Media, Audience and PR subjects.

Languages: Not at my target yet. (Noli used to speak 11 languages); however, fluent in English, French and Italian. Excellent command of written, spoken and preserved Albanian; sufficient knowledge in Spanish and German (enough not to get lost in the respective countries), etc.

Education: PhD and MA in Communication and Bachelor Degree in Journalism, from a sound combination of studies at Tirana and Malmo University (Sweden) in 1997, 2009 and 2017.

Several post graduate studies and long term training ever since, including:

Regional Academy for Democracy, RAD – BFPE and European Commission, Brussels and Belgrade, Human Rights and International Law – University of Lund, Sweden;
Academy of Political Studies – by Council of Europe (Tirana and Strasbourg)
Human Rights and Globalisation – Montreal, Canada.
Communication for Development – Malmo University, Sweden

Work achievements: One of the first Albanian female active reporters in the media, working among others for “Koha Jone”, “Panorama”, “Shekulli” and “Tirana Observer” newspapers as well as for TVA, TV Koha and other media, whilst on a continuous professional and academic development out of Albania.

Various employment assignments as Short Term Expert in International Development, as well as a rich experience as an Expat in Belgrade.

First success: Overcoming mine and everybody else’s scepticism about my gender and professional abilities. Continuously!

Most recent achievement: A new chapter in my professional life and preparedness for a better service to those who believe in me. Before that, replicating the representation of the new face of Albanian Politics at the European Council. Have to get back there a sit-holder, not replicator.

Wake-up time: Between 6.30 and 06.45 am.
Working hours: 07.15 – 20.00

Job’s most rewarding moments: “I did it”. Yes, good things can always happen at work, as long as you do what you are passionate about.

Nightmare: Bulling and hatreds. Negativity is my enemy. But would be a nightmare to give up. I echo M.J. Fox: “One’s dignity may be assaulted, vandalised and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered.”

Sports: Swimming, swimming, and swimming again.

Passive sport: Spent many hours of my teen years watching football. It was about the game, not the players. Football (or as some friends call it, “soccer”, is still my favourite companion every two summers, during World Cup and European Championship. Especially if Oranje, the Netherlands are in the competition).

Hobby: Making sense. If there’s no sense in my surroundings, I’m stuck until I find where is hiding. If there is no sense, I invent it.

Food: Bio, fresh, anything from Chinese to Swedish. However, I prefer Mediterranean…and white, not red wine.

Dreamland: The peace of bay I was born in. By the seaside, 15 minutes from the snow covered mountain.

Treasure: My orientation. Hard to let me go. It likes me very much, under no circumstances would leave me alone.

My assets: Integrity, resilience, persistence, loyalty, ambition, adeptness, sense of humour.

Areas for improvement: Diplomacy 🙂

I don’t like others when they: …when they want MY help to destroy me.

My best time last year: As usual, Florence, with my little nephews. We are five of a kind, laugh hard and bring the world around this laughter.

Quality time outside the office: Reading, writing, singing, dancing and spending time with my family, friends or colleagues outside Tirana.

Things that keep me awake at night:Do I have enough time for all my tasks? There is so little time left for more reading. Am I going fast enough? Slow enough? Why did this happen? Who? What for? What’s next?

Things that get me out of bed in the morning:  Important tasks, work deadlines and travelling.

Favourite reading: From Caesar to Clinton, from Napoleon to Stalin, Churchill to Hitler, I enjoy reading what’s been up to these people’s mind during their peak times. Politics, development theories, communication, education and globalisation also keep me going whilst reading.

On the plane: Always a book…and a cup of sugarless coffee.

Right now: Find your true north

Role model in my industry: Alistair Campbell /  Fiona Bruce

Role model outside my industry: Angela Merkel, Tony Blair and Barack Obama. All masters of words, work and politics. True and real speaking tanks.

Me in 2020: Definitely making good decisions, and not only for me.

Te uroj gjithcka te mire dhe shume suksese. I am very happy for your success so far : )

Megjithate, arsimimi, dija, qytetaria, civilizimi, zhvillimi, drejtesia do te fitojne nje dite.

    Eda, modestia dhe sensi yt i humorit ta zbukuron blogun. Une do perpiqem te shtoj (seriozisht, pa humor) disa nga vlerat e tua qe deshmojne integritet dhe personalitet;

    – aftesia per te degjuar deri ne fund – e plote
    – aftesia per diskutim dhe debat – e cliruar
    – aftesia per te respektuar kundershtarin ne debat – e
    rralle (tek ne)
    – aftesia per ta cuar objektivin deri ne fund – e
    – aftesia per pune ne grup -shembellore
    – etika dhe komunikimi – e papare
    – aftesia per te qeshur – transmeton shume dashuri
    – aftesia per te te bere per vehte – shkelqen

Eda, cdokush qe te njeh ka cfare t’i shtoje ketij blogu qe nuk eshte thjesht nje blog.

Eda, Ti Je Eda dhe Ti Vlen.

  • 17. Anjeza  |  20/01/2011 at 12:29

I was really impressed by your appearance on E Diell and took it upon myself to look you up. I remain impressed.

    Wish you all the best.

P.S. I loved the anecdote you shared which perfectly illustrated our apathetic passiveness.

  • 18. edliragjoni  |  20/01/2011 at 18:25

Thank you Anjeza. Passiveness is killing our future. We’ll not forgive ourselves in 30 years from now.

  • 20. Ana  |  02/08/2011 at 14:32

Te uroj me gjithe zemer FAT….

    me respekt

    e ben edhe fuqia e fjales ”

    Urime ( ! ) , edhe pse te vonuara…
